The Area Agency on Aging 1-B Board is created with members from the local region. The region consists of six counties that make up the board, which are Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, and Washtenaw. The board is created under of Act 180 of 1981.

The board in total has twenty (20) members, but just two (2) are from Livingston County. One (1) of those members will be a county commissioner, while the other one (1) will be someone 60 years or older from the county. Both members from Livingston County must also have an Alternate.  

The board is to look at the overall area plan for services needed for individuals that are aging. The board looks at services and programs to help aging individuals remain living independently. The board reviews funding and management for many government programs available for seniors. The board looks at meals on wheels help to make sure homebound seniors have a hot meal and friendly visits from volunteers. The board looks at adult day care services, and helps with advocacy concerns. The board helps administer subcontracts with local organizations that deal directly with an individual that is aging and the services they will need.
